Timber Frame Trusses To Keep House Roofs Durable

By Della Monroe

If we were to look back in our history, we all know that people before are fond of building their houses under a flat roof. People seem to often do this because of the fact that is way much cheaper and they still do not have enough knowledge in building. Thus, they often experience roofs collapsing because of weak foundation and weather.

But nowadays, people have found a new way on how to strengthen the roof foundation and that is by building foundations in different forms aside from flat. They use timber frame trusses which greatly support our roof. Thus, roofs are way much stronger and durable now if you compare with the flat made ones.

These trusses are just frames which undergo the process of kiln drying. The frames are then attached underneath your home covering to create a very good foundation. These frames are commonly installed with a steal nail plate to make your truss efficiently strong. But the creation of frames will surely depend on your house construction needs and the type of design you definitely want to have.

The woods are accurately made so it will perfectly fit to your house with a very good strength. From the size, its angling, down to its installation can really give you assurance that your roof is very ready to any weather types. Because of this, below are things that contribute to the strengths and weaknesses of your truss.

The very first thing is its making. The timber has to be lightweight without compromising its strength. Often, manufacturers do the kiln drying process which is very effective in making your home covering durable and effectively useable for so many years. After doing the process, manufacturers will then grade the strength of the timber with a certain device.

The design of your truss frames are made to support your house covering which is very critical at the same time. Yes, changing just a little of its parts surely contributes to weakening the total home covering area. So if you have seen several changes, dont change it on your own but contact the structural engineer that installed it. If you dont do this, your house will surely collapse.

The installation of timber must also be installed and checked properly by the engineer. This is because any changes to its bolts, screws, and or pegs could decrease the installation strength. Thus, this is another reason that you end up having a collapsed house covering and get another problem in the end.

No matter how reliable these trusses could be, always watch out for certain things that can cause failure. Yes, things can still go wrong in the long run especially with the type of weather it has withstood. Thus, failures could happen anytime to your house and the best way to prevent it is to do inspection.

If the timber is often exposed to damp, this may also contribute to strength decrease. Though you have treated all you truss already, the damp may still affect the timber. You also need to check natural rotting and the natural decaying of the timber or any insect damaged parts. This frequently happens to those old establishments because the ends of the woods are supported by the stone walls.
