Places To Find Suitable Turntable Needles

By Richard Russell

A large number of people still play vinyl records and will own a record player to play them on. Due to the fact that most people now use mp3 or compact discs the spares for older equipment may be hard to find. If you need to find turntable needles there are a few places where you will find what you require and a little research should be done.

A good stylus is a very important part of the turntable as it picks up the sound from the grooves in the record and turns it into sound. A badly worn needle will not produce a quality sound and it will also damage your records. There are many different types of stylus and it is essential that you fit one that is compatible to your deck.

One of the best places to find a replacement stylus is at a professional audio dealer which can be found on the high street. These stores will usually carry huge stocks of needles and will usually have one that is compatible. If they do not have your item in stock they can usually contact a manufacturer and order one for you.

Another good place to find needles is on the internet and there are any retailers who trade online who can supply them. You will usually need a serial number and then search through their list of stock to find a match. If you do not have the number, you can email them a photo and they may be able to help you. When you buy online you should be aware that shipping charges will be added to your order total.

If you can not find a stylus from a retailer then you have the option of trying an online auction site. Many of these sites will have needles for sale and they can often be purchased at low prices. If the stylus you need is hard to find or expensive, it can be a good idea to speak to the seller, before bidding on the item.

Second hand shops can be a useful place to find spares for older turntables that are no longer made. Many junk stores will have old audio equipment so it can be worth stopping by the stores to check. If you do find a match there, it is worth buying the whole player, in case you need further spares in the future.

If the manufacturer of your turntable is still in business then it is a good idea to buy your replacement needles from them. If they do not make your particular model anymore they may still have some old needles in stock. They may also tell you where else you can look if they are unable to supply a suitable match.

When you find a spare needle that you have been searching for it can be worth buying more than one as they will wear out with regular use. If you have had trouble finding a match, then buying a few extra will save you a lot of time in the future. Always keep your new needles in their box or fit them to the record deck to prevent damage or loss.
