By Scott Johnson

The third world is beset with problems. They include economic, social, and political problems. These challenges are hindering a lot of progress in the Jamaican society. Luckily, there are charities for Jamaica that are helping in a number of ways. These organizations have done a good deal of charity work in different parts of Jamaica. Because of their amazing contributions, society has become better. These institutions are doing only part of the work; getting help to where it is needed. The other part is being done by those people who always contribute to charitable causes.

Educating underprivileged children is important. It is through getting a good education that people can overcome poverty. An educated person can easily find opportunities for improving his life. In some places, people do not have access to educational facilities. There are also places that have poorly equipped facilities. When there are such challenges, there will be a viscous circle of poverty. That means that society will remain in poverty.

Charity work is contributing in different areas of education. In some cases, people volunteer their teaching skills to help children in places where there is a shortage of teachers. There are organizations that are building more schools. In remote areas of the world, one has to walk for miles before he finds a school. Building more classes is crucial.

Having a school is not enough. An educational facility needs to be well equipped. Some organizations deal with providing learning materials. Books are needed. People cannot get educated if there are no books. There is also need for writing materials. In the modern world, laptops are also used in the learning process. Some organizations deal with donating personal computers to school.

In the west, there is piped water. Most westerners get direct water to their house. In some parts of the developing world, there is no fresh and clean water. People have to search for water and the water they usually find is normally not safe for human consumption. There are organizations involved in the construction of boreholes for disenfranchised communities.

Health is the number one priority in the world. Without good health, an individual will not be able to enjoy all the pleasures of the world. In some parts of Jamaica, people are dying of easy to prevent diseases. AIDS is the number one killer in the third world. Other killer diseases in the developing world include typhoid, malaria, and cholera.

Life saving medications are being delivered to far to reach places by charitable organizations. Because of charity work all over the world, people who do not have the money have been able to get antiretroviral medications. In some cases, charity work has made it easy to access mosquito nets that are needed so that to prevent the spread of malaria.

Charity organizations are not only helping African and Asian countries. There are also helping countries in the Caribbean that have been beset with poverty and other societal challenges. Charity work costs a lot of money. Charitable causes depend on the generosity of people, all over the globe. One can donate in cash or in kind. All contributions are usually appreciated.
