Common Roles Of The Criminal Justice Agencies

By Betty Baker

Crime is a common thing in the world, and there have to be systems that come in to handle it whenever it does occur. Criminal justice agencies are involved with ensuring that there is a decision and awarding of appropriate action to those who have been involved. It comprises of three central institutions that have different functions, but all are aimed at ensuring that they work under the law to deliver the appropriate actions to the accused and complainant. Their joint and related services include the ones highlighted below.

It is their function to arrest the individuals who are involved with any criminal activity. After the police have identified that a crime has occurred, they proceed to bring in those individuals who have been involved into custody so that justice can be delivered to those who have been offended. After they have been arrested, they pass them on to courts as the agencies work in a relationship manner.

They are also responsible for correcting any evidence that will help out in a case. Civilians are only used to offer information and are not law enforcers. Therefore, it is the responsibility of these bodies to source for anything that could help in finding solutions to the cases. This information is then presented to those who are mandated to pass judgment as per the law.

Provision of support services in the form of advocates is another of their functions. It is best decided for a case if the parties involved know the legal extents that cover it. This is the reason why there are lawyers who undertake to handle matters before magistrates and judges as they are well conversant with the procedures and terms used.

The agencies under the courts come in to act as the middle person where they listen to both sides and pass the judgment. A court is the representative of the government where it uses the rules and regulations that have are set in order for them to give conclusions on the issues at hand. The conclusions that they present can be appealed until the parties get satisfied.

Provision of intelligence on matters pertaining to the safety and well-being of the country is another of their roles. They carry out investigations through the programs that are set out in order to point out those matters that may be a threat if not handled. These cover areas such as illegal use of firearms and drugs and once the information gathered points it to be a threat action is taken.

In addition, holding or imprisoning the citizens who are found guilty is another of their roles. After a judgment has been passed and they are found to have broken some laws, the individuals are subject to face disciplinary action which is carried out in correction centers. These are usually areas where not only punishment is carried out but also rehabilitation is done so as to turn the individual from their wrongdoings.

In conclusion, it is their function to assist the persons who have left the correction facilities to adapt to social life. After living these centers, they are supposed to have reformed since there are processes that ensure that this happens. Hence, the agencies in charge of the afterlife are also supposed to keep a check on the person who has been released to ensure they do not commit crimes again
