Michigan Arrest Records

By Ben Kingsley

Crime is something that is very difficult to prevent even though there are law enforcers scattered around. To help protect the safety and security of the public, the government made criminal records available to the public so that people are well-informed about whom they should stay away from. In Michigan, it is the task of their Criminal Justice Information Center to gather and maintain Michigan Criminal Records. Any member of the public has the right to request for the records because they are considered as part of the public domain.

A criminal record is a collection of crime-related records that are recorded from various counties of a state. It contains the name of the criminal, a description of the crime or crimes committed, and where they were committed. It also contains personal details about the criminal such as an address, age, weight, height, skin and eye color, and many others. A person may request his or her own records to check for errors in the pieces of information included or to use it as a document in a legal proceeding. Requesting of the records of other people is also allowed but the requestor will only be given the basic details to protect the privacy of the records' owner.

Acquiring criminal documents when doing background checks on certain individuals will get you a substantial amount of important data. Landlords and businesses use the data from criminal documents to give them a better idea as to who to accept as tenants and employees. Parents also use the data from criminal documents to know if the people that their children are with have a criminal history or not.

You can begin a search by giving the name of the person whose documents you want to acquire. You can also utilize fingerprints if you have access. If you are providing the name but it is very common, include more information that you know about the person so that the odds of locating the right documents will get better. As with fingerprints, they are available if the offense has a punishment with a duration of at 92 days or more, if the offender needs to put to jail, or if the offender is fined with $100 or more. Once payments are made, you are not entitled to receive a refund even if the documents you requested for are not located.

You can also retrieve criminal files from the Internet. There are search tools that specialized in maintaining and providing them to the public, some of which render fees for getting the files while some do it without charging anything. There are several search tools to choose from, but unfortunately, not all are capable of supplying accurate pieces of information. To have a better idea about the credibility of the search tool you are considering of using, check if it has a history of providing accurate information or not.

For a certain amount of fee, you can obtain a lot of valuable information from fee-based service providers. But if you look hard enough, you can find service providers that provide Criminal Records Free to Public. You are not going to get the same amount of information you would get with fee-based service providers but you will get the basic pieces of information.
