Overview For Stage Lighting And Types Of Lights

By Christa Jarvis

Working the pieces together in a scene, stage, or set up for performances on concerts, would take a lot of work with different elements that needs to be well sewn together. Most of the concern would be for props, physical setup, lighting, and sometimes cameras. All of these should go together and blend in to give that perfect setup.

The lighting on the stage can either make or break the mood of both the audience and the performers. Stage lighting Chicago should consist of the necessary design and setup to give that perfect ambience and feel during the performances. That is why you need to accordingly place different lighting depending on the event.

There are many light fixtures that can be used depending on the need of the stage. Designers should be able to know what these are. The fixtures have specific requirements for the power need and if you mismatch any of this, they would like blow up and cause damage in the middle of the performance. There are 500 watts for 2.1 amps of power source, 650 watts for 2.7 amps, 1000 watts for 4.2 amps, 1200 watts for 5.0 amps, and 2000 watts for 8.3 amps.

There are different kinds of fixtures for various purposes. First we have Wash Lights where it produces a soft beam which mimics natural sunlight dispersion. The size of the beam is easily adjustable so it can have many sources blended in together. These are mainly used for theatres because of their dispersed intensity.

One other kind are spotlights. They produce really intense beams and give more emphasis and focus on a given subject on stage. These are what concerts use for their main lights since it gives off a sharp exposure and they are intense as well. The colors can change easily, too, and you only need to purchase the bulb for it, but they tend to be expensive.

A flat kind of light that is not used for the front parts and subjects is called a Flood Light. They are entirely widespread and simplistic fixtures but the intensity and coverage may be adjusted accordingly. They are mostly used for the backgrounds and props. But the sizes are fixed though, but they do come in different ones.

In theatre plays, the director for lighting should be able to go along with their rehearsals in order to get the perfect mood for each scene. There needs to be control on which the audience should focus by highlighting an area. They should also determine the mood, composition, and revelation of the form of the actors.

There are various functionalities of lights and these should be utilized at their fullest potential. Take into consideration the colors being used, since this helps set up the emotion of the environment. Intensity, distribution, movement, and texture would all come into play to make the whole setup more dynamic.

Also, it is the responsibility of the director to strategically locate and position all the lights for the whole stage in order for each one of them to work together and blend with each other. This is especially for plays, shoots, and concerts in Chicago, IL. For example, a technique where two streams of lights are focused on a subject, it then transforms the two dimensional look into three dimensional.
