All About An Industrial Oxygen Generator

If you have been sick, at some point, you have required oxygen when your body is not able to breathe in an out effectively. This gas is produced by an industrial oxygen generator and packaged appropriately for you to breathe. Apart from hospitals, the vital gas is made for industrial processes such as thermal cycling, biological water treatment, bleaching, catalytic oxidations, incineration and ozone regeneration. Other users include the mining industry and armed forces.

There are two types of industrial generator technology-PSA and high volume VPSA generators. For both technologies, the process starts with 95% oxygen purity through several consecutive stages to achieve a purity of up to 99%. PSA means Pressure Swing Adsorption and concentrates oxygen to achieve a higher purity level after extracting it directly from the atmosphere.

PSA functions by separating the molecules of the required gas from all other compressed air molecules. A particular set of pellets is used in the set up to ensure that only oxygen molecules pass through while all other molecules are adsorbed. The PSA system is able to achieve a purity level ranging between 93% and 99%. These PSA based generators come with maintenance advisories, low pressure and purity alarms, analyzers, among others.

On the other hand, high volume VPSA is able to get a purity level of almost 93%. The deal with this kind is the high level of automation. There are remote monitoring, control and communication capabilities. However, both of these technologies have a high degree of reliability and low maintenance costs, considering maintenance issues like cleaning of the inlet air filters can be done every six months. In addition, they are not only space efficient, they also support on-site supply; a new trend in the market.

The market has for a long time employed compressed air in cylinders for their needs. However, on-site generators have gained popularity among users. On-site supply cut down on transportation costs and cylinder rentals. They also nullify the need for long contracts between manufacturers, suppliers and users. On-site set ups also give the users much more control as the models are made with the least knowledgeable user in mind.

So how do buyers choose the most appropriate tank to purchase? Honestly, there are many manufacturers as there are models complicating the decision making process for the buyer. However, one should consider the size, output requirement and air requirement before making the decision. Moreover, airflow rate and capacity of delivery are also important points in the decision making process. Delivery capacities range from 0.6 to 56 l/s while air rate flow is 2 to 200Nm3/ hour.

Functionalities to look out for before purchasing include off and on switches, customized flow gauges and controls, integrated control panel and a digital hour meter. These functionalities enable a plug and play kind of set up as all the operator needs to do is to set the required pressure and flow. Simply put, the system should be as user friendly as possible.

Air is free for all and therefore industrial generators utilizing it should bear minimal purchasing and operating costs. Apart from the cost, a buyer should consider the functionality, space, efficiency and power consumption. All these factors should fit into the purpose of the tank. Therefore, consider the purpose first, then embark on choosing a manufacturer, then a model that suits your needs.
